💸 Remittance Cost Calculator
How much does your family actually receive? Compare providers and find real savings.
Step-by-step guide
1
Enter the amount you want to send in your local currency
2
Select your country — we use the correct mid-market rate for that corridor
3
Compare what arrives in INR across providers — the difference is often ₹3,000–8,000 per transfer
4
Check LRS limits — India allows outward remittance of up to USD 250,000 per financial year. Inward remittance (to India) has no cap.

RBI guidelines apply; India allows unlimited inward remittances. Outward remittance from India
is capped at USD 250,000/year under LRS. Verify with your bank or provider.
🏛️ DTAA Double-Tax Relief Calculator
India has tax treaties (DTAA) with 90+ countries. See how much TDS you can reduce — and how to claim it.
How DTAA works — step by step
1
Without DTAA: India deducts TDS at 30% on NRO interest, 20% on dividends, 20% on property capital gains
2
With a DTAA certificate (Form 10F + Tax Residency Certificate): TDS drops to the treaty rate — often 15% or lower
3
File your TRC with your Indian bank/tenant before the payment date — you cannot reclaim TDS already deducted without filing an ITR
4
Declare in your home country: India tax paid is usually creditable against home country tax via Foreign Tax Credit (FTC)
NRO interest + rent + dividends
⚠️ DTAA rates are current as of 2024-25. Rates may change. This is educational — consult a CA registered with ICAI or a tax advisor in your country before filing. Form 10F + TRC must be submitted to the deductor before payment.
🏦 NRE vs NRO vs FCNR Account Guide
Which account should your India savings sit in? The choice affects tax, repatriation, and exchange risk.
Decision guide — 4 questions
1
Is the money earned abroad or in India? Foreign earnings → NRE or FCNR. India income (rent, pension) → NRO only.
2
Do you need to take the money back out of India? NRE and FCNR are freely repatriable. NRO is restricted (USD 1M/year limit, requires CA certificate).
3
Do you want to avoid Indian tax on interest? NRE and FCNR interest is tax-free in India. NRO interest is taxed at 30% TDS (reducible via DTAA).
4
Worried about the Rupee falling? FCNR holds your money in foreign currency (USD, AUD, GBP, EUR) — zero exchange risk within the account.

🏘️ India Property CGT Calculator (NRI)
Selling property in India as an NRI? TDS hits you hard before you can touch the money — here's exactly what to expect.
NRI property sale — what actually happens
1
Buyer must deduct TDS at 20% (+ surcharge + cess) on the ENTIRE sale value — not just the gain. This happens at registration.
2
LTCG (held > 2 years): 20% + cess after indexation OR 12.5% without indexation (FA 2024 change — whichever is lower).
3
You can apply for a Lower TDS Certificate (Form 13) from the Income Tax Officer before the sale — this brings TDS closer to actual tax, not 20% of sale value.
4
Reinvest to save CGT: Section 54 (buy residential property within 2 years), Section 54EC (invest in bonds within 6 months, cap ₹50L).
Registered renovation, not routine maintenance
⚠️ CGT rates reflect Finance Act 2024 changes (effective 23 Jul 2024). Indexation removed for properties bought after 1 Apr 2001 under new regime — taxpayers may choose old or new regime, whichever is beneficial. Consult a CA before the sale. Form 13 application should be made at least 30 days before registration.
✈️ Return-to-India Financial Planner
Thinking of moving back? Your residency status changes the moment you land — and so does your tax situation.
Residency status changes on return — understand this first
1
You become Resident but Not Ordinarily Resident (RNOR) for 2–3 years — your foreign income stays untaxed in India during this period. Plan major asset sales in this window.
2
Convert NRE → Resident accounts within 3 months of return — you cannot operate NRE/FCNR accounts as a resident. NRO can continue.
3
RNOR window: Indian tax applies only to India-sourced income. Foreign pension, investments, property sale proceeds remain outside India's tax net for 2 financial years.
4
Foreign assets: File Schedule FA in Indian ITR disclosing all foreign assets from the year you become Ordinary Resident (OR). Penalty for non-disclosure: ₹10 lakh.
All assets outside India
Rent, pension, consulting etc.
Taxed in India only after RNOR window
⚠️ RNOR status is determined by the Income Tax Act, 1961. Rules: resident if India stay ≥182 days in FY, or ≥60 days and ≥365 days in prior 4 years. RNOR if (a) non-resident in 9 of 10 prior FYs or (b) India stay ≤729 days in prior 7 years. Consult a CA before returning.
👨👩👧 Family Support Optimiser
Sending money to parents, siblings, or children in India? Here's how to structure it for maximum tax efficiency in both countries.
Key rules you may not know
1
Gifts to close relatives in India are exempt from Indian gift tax (Section 56). Parents, siblings, spouse, children — no limit.
2
In Australia: Money sent to family overseas is generally not tax-deductible. But the recipient's use of the money can generate deductible income for you (clubbing rules apply).
3
Loan vs gift: A properly documented loan at arm's length rate lets you claim interest, and the family member repays when they can.
4
Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS): Parents can invest gifted funds in SCSS at 8.2% (2024) — the interest goes to them, the capital stays accessible.
Emergency fund / education / wedding
⚠️ Gift tax rules, FEMA regulations, and tax treaties vary. Amounts above USD 10,000 (AU), USD 10,000 (US), £10,000 (UK) may require reporting in your home country. Consult a tax professional in both India and your country of residence.
