Common questions
Which calculator should I start with?
Depends on your situation. If you owe tax now → Tax Payment Planner. Preparing for a future quarterly bill → Quarterly Tax Savings Countdown. Wondering what your salary actually leaves you → Real Salary Calculator. Investing and unsure about capital gains → CGT Calculator. Sole trader dealing with GST → BAS Calculator. Wondering if private health insurance is worth the Medicare Levy Surcharge (Australia) → Is Private Health Insurance Worth It?. On the US ACA marketplace and worried about the 2026 subsidy cliff → ACA Subsidy Cliff Calculator.
Do these tools apply outside Australia?
Universal tools (tax drag, YOLO tax, real salary, income splitter) work anywhere just by adjusting the tax rate. Region-flexible tools (Tax Payment Planner, Quarterly Countdown) have country selectors for AU/US/UK/CA/NZ. Some are country-specific (BAS = AU, GST invoice = India, VAT = UK/EU, HECS = AU student loan) — useful when relevant, safe to ignore otherwise.
Are the tax rates current?
Defaults reflect published rates at time of build. Every tool exposes the rates as editable fields — if the government changed something last month, override the default with your current number. See our changelog for when tools were last updated.
Where do you get your numbers?
Each flagship tool has a "Sources & citations" block at the bottom linking to the official tax-authority page. E.g. AU brackets come from the ATO, US brackets from the IRS. See our FAQ for the full data policy.
