📚 How inflation erodes wealthExpand

At 3% annual inflation, $100 today buys only $74 worth of goods in 10 years. After 30 years: just $41. Money sitting in a low-interest account loses purchasing power silently every year.

The Rule of 72 for inflation: Divide 72 by the inflation rate to find how many years until purchasing power halves. At 3% inflation: 72 ÷ 3 = 24 years until your cash is worth half.

This is why investing matters: your returns must exceed the inflation rate just to break even in real terms. A 7% return with 3% inflation gives a real return of roughly 3.9%.
