Why checking your wealth percentile matters

Most people have no idea where they actually stand financially compared to others their age. We tend to compare ourselves to the people immediately around us — colleagues, neighbours, social media feeds — which gives a wildly distorted picture. Someone with $500,000 in net worth might feel behind because their friends just bought a bigger house, while statistically they are wealthier than 70% of people their age.

This tool breaks your wealth into categories (super/401k, property equity, shares, crypto, cash, and debts) because the act of listing everything often reveals you are wealthier than you thought. Many people forget to count their super, underestimate their property equity, or overlook small investment accounts. Adding it all up can be surprisingly positive.

The percentile ranking uses wealth distribution data by age bracket across Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Your rank is interpolated between the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, 95th, and 99th percentile thresholds for your age group.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as net worth?
Net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe. Assets include superannuation, property equity (market value minus mortgage), shares, ETFs, crypto, cash savings, vehicles, and valuables. Debts include mortgages, car loans, credit cards, student loans, and personal loans.
Where does the percentile data come from?
Australian data is based on the ABS Survey of Income and Housing. US data draws from the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances. UK data comes from the ONS Wealth and Assets Survey. All figures are adjusted to approximate 2024–2025 values.
Is super included in net worth?
Yes. Superannuation is part of your total wealth even though you cannot access it until preservation age. Including it gives a more accurate picture of your financial position, especially for Australians where super can represent a significant portion of total wealth.
